Postcards come to mind as a good collectible for young,old,male or female. Stamps and coins are also pretty universal collectors items. Stamps especially would be a good thing to start collecting because the US Post Office puts out a monthly catalog of recent stamp issues and if you buy them when they come out they are a cheap collectible. Antique or vintage anything......costume jewelry, pottery, salt and pepper shakers, dolls, toys, comics, books, vases, thimbles, paperweights, purses, posters,tea sets, teddy bears, photographs, hat pins, music boxes, snow globes, animal figurines such as rabbits or cats, marbles, toy trains, Christmas ornaments.

something that you really like that's easily obtainable is a good way to start. Don't buy anything for the sake of future perceived value, buy it or acquisition because it is valuable to you. I collect cream pitchers, and coffee mugs and paper, lots of paper. If you have a china cupboard, you can display small collections. little gumball machine toys are my favorite around my computer.

I collect "kitten and cat" statues. My husband hates cats, so I started to collect them. I have over 100 of them.
