Ok so I have a professor who is a crazy smoker. She gives us a 5-10 minute break every 25 minutes (im not kidding) cause she needs to go outside for a smoke. The class is 3 hours long, but I’d rather get out of there a 1/2 hour earlier OR just take one 10-15 minute break half way through like in most other classes. It’s really annoying when you have to stop the lecture every 20 minutes or so. You don’t end up learning as much, and especially when you’re paying for your education, you realize what a waste that is. We did address her about this several of times during class, and all she kept saying was, “don’t complain, some teachers don’t give a break at all”. She has a point, but still. What do u all think?
Oh and also, this class has the most anti-social group of people I’ve ever met, so it’s really boring and awkward having to wait for the Smokers Club to return!

you can go to the department head, then the dean of that college (for example the john smith college of business at university of virginia) then the dean of the university. however, in college, profs. have total control and say so. If you say something and they do nothing and it gets back to her you may be in for a hard semester with her. I would say just suck it up.

Employees have legal rights to breaks (whether smokers or not), however, it's something like a 15 minute break every three hours or so. This means that the money you are paying for your education is going toward her smoke breaks. You need to complain about this! This is a waste of your money, and you need to let the appropriate person know about it.

My first reaction was just enjoy the breaks! But, you do have a point, and especially if all of these breaks are interferring with you learning you should talk to the dean about it. I don't think professors are technically allowed to take more than 2 breaks per class anyway.

I think she needs some Nicorette. I'm all for smoke breaks for smokers, but this woman takes it a little too far.
