What are the health benefits of using vinegar (not white)? One of my friends was telling me that she read that vinegar can help your body and cure things in many different ways, whether by ingesting a few teaspoons a day or wiping it on affected areas of your body, etc.

Your friend would be referring to Apple Cider Vinegar. Many people swear by it as a health aid or for weight loss help. Others think it's curative properties are a myth.

One thing I know, a warm tablespoon of cider vinegar mixed with a little honey is the best cough medicine on the planet, and the cheapest.

Vinegar is known as an anti-bacterial. On the exterior, Vinegar can be used as a wash to help soothe and eliminate skin problems, including bacterial ones. Use a diluted solution in warm water. It helps eliminate b.o. (the white distilled kind that I know of anyway) when used in the shower. It's a great foot soaker too, and if you ever have problems with athletes foot or dirty nails, it's a great remedy to soak and wash your feet in warm water and vinegar. The stuff cleans (and kills) bacteria from under the nails, and has been known to treat 'ugly nail'.

Internally, Vinegar is a good everyday thing to consume. A couple teaspoons up the hatch or mixed into foods fresh or in your salad dessing. It helps cleanse your body, your intestines (and colon) and helps fight infections, kinda like Vitamin C. It also helps control indegestion, reportedly by regulating the acids in your stomach.

Apple Cider vinegar helps balance the pH in your system because it is an alkaline substance (counteracts the acidity in many bad substances). Besides weight loss, it can be used to control blood pressure, allergies (including pet, food and environmental), sinus infections, acne, high cholesterol, flu, chronic fatigue, candida (yeast), acid reflux, sore throats, contact dermatitis, arthritis, and gout. A good side effect is that it will leave your skin with a nice healthy glow!
