It depends on what limits you put on the word 'media'\
In america you can get more info that is not on the main stations but it is up to you to seek it out. There is free speach TV and Cspan with its book TV offering more balanced vievpoints and information in a longer setting. there are many internet sites that give info and grass roots organizations like code pink and others like Sensible priorities, and vets for peace. In Korea you could not even utter the other views. there is alternative news in America it just takes a willingness to seek it and become more fully informed.

Hi
In general, our major media are profit driven. That means that they will show only news that they think will gain them market share, thus enabling them to sell more advertizing at higher prices.

As Christian rocker, Steve Taylor once said "You can tell a lie just by how you point the camera's eye"

They cannot possibly show everything, of course, and with profit motive driving what they do show, it is a certainty that much good news simply is never reported.

There are other stations you can watch if you have satellite or cable. It is really good if you know some of another language and can get a broadcast from that country. Gives a whole new slant on the headlines!

There is a lot of stuff on the Inet of course, just do a little research and you'd be suprised at what you turn up.

Regarding N Korea, they have had a history of "saber rattling" to get what they want. That is they threaten to use force, drop a few well placed "leaks" of information, display some missles or something and scare the whatever out of their neighbors. Then concessions are made in the name of peace wherein N. Korea gets food, aid, industrial technology, etc. - pretty much what they wanted in the first place - only they did't beg for it, they appeared to their own people to wrestle it out of the other nations. That is the concept of "saving face".

In short, we have not antagonized the country. They behave that way on a regular basis as part of their strategy of interaction with the world around them - sort of like a four foot bully.

Of course, if you only watch the big three, you really don't know anything that our gov. doesn't want you to know. That is why it is necessary to do your own research and check out some other sources. Of course, everybody who writes on the internet or does a podcast is not an authority, so don't believe it all!

If you only watch the major networks you certainly are not getting all of the news. It's set up more for entertainment or shock value and only 15 minutes of real news. A good newspaper or Internet browsing has all the news, pro and con.

Don't you find it interesting that in a country of 50 states, countless cities and towns, millions of square miles and millions and millions of people,..that when you watch American network newscasts ALL of the networks tell you the same 9 to 15 stories on the same date??? (Then the local news people parrot the same major stories right afterward, as if they could tell it to you better, ha ha). Really?? ONLY THOSE 15 INTERESTING THINGS HAPPENED TODAY IN THE ENTIRE UNITED STATES AND THE WORLD??? Have no doubt, my friend,...You know only what you're intended to know and you're programmed to think with only that info. It is up to the individual to avoid being a blind follower.

Ever listen to World Band Radio? It has been a while but I used to hear the Voice of America broadcast news to the US and tell one story but when they broadcast overseas the story has changed. ALL countries practice propaganda.

Sadly I don't trust most news media in the U.S. anymore. They have become for the most part puppets of politicians and corporations. You have to take most of what they say these days with "a grain of salt." Not to mention their greed.
