Usually cotton materials shrink really well... But in your situation, it would be able to shrink, but not as much. Instead of throwing it into your washer, put it in a really hott bucket of water. Prestart your dryer so it is already warm. After you're doen hand washing the dress with really hott water....throw it into the dryer and put it on high heat. Take the dress out occasianally to make sure it is the right shrinkage you want. Heat = Shrinkage

Follow the tag instructions. Use delicate wash setting. If its all black dress buy the Woolite Black Detergent. This stuff kept my black jeans the blackest black for a long time!
If not black use plain Woolite. Wash in cold like it says. Put in dryer on air dry first time, rest of drying time put on some heat.
I have had some items like that shrink on me, cause I did not the item flat to dry. Pull it out of the dryer often to see how its doing.
Don't forget the static cling sheet! Those shocks from the dryer can hurt Ouch!

It shouldn't shrink, but follow the washing instructions. I would wash it on the gentle/delicate cycle and DO NOT PUT IN DRYER!! If the fit isn't right, find someone who does alterations. Ann Taylor is a good brand and worth the fitting!

A Rayon/poly dress will probably not shrink (much) if you stick it in the dryer, but it could damage the dress. Your best bet would be to take it to a tailor and have altered.

Being a Rayon/Poly mix it isn't going to shrink enough to make it fit....your best bet for something to shrink is something with cotton in it. Sorry!

Ann Taylor is nice. If you got it on sale, I'd put a little more money into it and have a seamstress fix it to fit perfectly.

I would call a local dry cleaners before you ruin the dress. they can tell you how much shrinkage to expect. But if you can wash and dry and iron it .. thats some heat... call first then wash.

It's a good dress. Have it properly tailored. It's probably a classic style and will give you years of wear if you look and feel good in it.
