I am getting so sick of all this anime stuff! It is all the exact same material and the style of animation is such an eyesore! Every show involves fighting, magic, or girls with big boobs. How can people actually be entertained by all of this?! It is so boring and mindless! And everyone is drawing it! You go on DeviantArt.com and you find nothing but anime in the fanart section! Am I the only person out there who isn't fooled by this shlock?

No, you are not the only one who hates anime. I read manga, but only when I am really REALLY bored like when there is nothing else for me to do. Some anime are decent and some are just weird. I hate it when anime characters laugh an annoying laugh at something that is not funny at all.
Anime is so dull, everyone's head has a sharp chin, small mouth, huge eyes, and spiky hair. Sometimes, they don't even has any nostrils which is like...wtf. Anime to me, is like not serious and very childish. The animators try to make their character look all cute with the big eyes and all, but I'm not falling for it. I believe that Japanese animators make their character with big eyes because they don't want to have to relate to having small slim eyes (not to be racist or anything). Anime is not realistic at all, they exaggerate on everything.
Every show is always about a person trying to rise to the top by fighting evil and they gain allies along the way. I am sick of anime it's all over the freakin' internet. Normal cartoons like X-Men and stuff like that are way better.

I don't like anime, but then, anime nowadays aren't what they use to be. I think in Japan, more and more ppl are trying to get away from reality, and the only way they can do it is by drawing it out, kind of "realising their fantasy in the book" (most animes come from comic books).
Some anime which I think is really good is Akira (as mentioned before) and Ghost in the Shell (series 1 and 2, and the movie too!). These anime can really get you thinking!!! I think they bring as much moral and philosophical questions as X-men or other. One thing that I think Anime is rather advanced is their smooth animation for complicated scenes, but a lot of other countries are also working on their smooth sequencing. On the other hand, some Korean cartoons are also mimicing anime, and I think their stories are even more brainless (in my personall oppinion). Maybe their culture demans for it... I think quality anime and comics are not sold overseas if they aren't as popular, so what you see aren't the only thing there are. Bless internet, it's fast and free!
Roosterkid: Not all Japanese have small eyes, and most japanese don't have small eyes anymore. It would be not be a correct view of looking at the "western-eastern ppl" and thinking that all asians look like that. The eastern ppl you see in movies and such are only what westerners think are asian.

Most of the good anime's don't even play on tv ...
Practicly all the stuff that comes on tv is utter bull, just go search around. There's more then just the no brainers. Try akira or something, it's pretty old but still great even by todays standard.

Have to agree that there is a lot of boring and mindless stuff out there but do watch the good ones and not the crappy tv shows ...

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I love anime but my boyfriend just doesn't get it. The thing is that a lot of the anime that is on TV in the US is edited and dubbed over so that the original idea of the story is essentially gone. It is then packaged so they can sell crappy toys to kids (ie, Yu-Gi-Oh, Digimon, etc.)

However, if you saw a lot of these in their original Japanese versions, they are a lot more interesting. The stories are much more developed and are what the creators intended. Now, I understand why you would think that so many contain "magic, fighting or girls with big boobs" and in fact, I don't like very many of these shows. I enjoy the anime that makes you think. Howl's Moving Castle is amazing and so is Gankutsou (a version of The Count of Monte Cristo).

Anime is just like so many other things--some people like fantasy stuff like "Magic the Gathering" or Dungeons and Dragons, but its not my thing. Neither are mindless shows like Laguna Beach. But, some people like them, so why knock what others like? I appreciate your opinion, but us anime fans like anime for many different reasons.

It's so obvious you haven't actually seen a proper anime if you think fighting, magic and big breasted girls is all anime is about!

Proper anime (I'm not talking Pokemon and Digimon and One Piece, forget the kids stuff. I'm talking more adult anime) deal with issues people in real life face (love, relationships with lovers, family, choices made in life, fueds, loss). Anime isn't always well recieved by the west because we in the west haven't grown up with it and see it as strange sometimes (for everyone else who loves anime and is from the West, I don't mean you. I'm with you guys/girls all the way).
Just because you have a stunted imagination and can't see the hidden story behind great anime doesn't mean anime isn't proper art and a beatutiful artform as well!

i feel ya on this. i didn't much get it either until a friend explained. yes, there are those art freaks who love anime for its animation style. but the real appeal of anime shows is that the are intense dramas with fight scenes. its like watching general hospital with a heaping helping of kicking and punching.

personally i'm still not watching any of the shows but now i understand why folks are so dedicated week after week to all these cartoons that look exactly the same to me.

I don't think you've examined this art form to its fullest extent as you claim if you really believe that "every show involves fighting, magic, or girls with big boobs."

You really need to explore the different genres of anime instead of generalizing it the way you do. Granted, anime is not for everyone, but there is something in it for all who want to find some kind of anime genre that appeals to them.

Besides, do you really believe that the American animation you see on Cartoon Network, the Disney Channel, et al. is superior to anime? No attention to detail whatsoever...

Most anime blows. Its mostly self-indulgent, contrived fantasies from the minds of socially inept, emotionally challenged man-childeren. I'm a lot closer to 40 than 20 these days, and I was raised on anime. It was crappy then, and with the advent of more outlets, more crap makes it to the airwaves quicker.

Of course, there's exceptions. Oshii, Miazaki, and Otomo are masters at what they do. Everyone else is lowering the bar below 60s Hanna-Barbarra...lower than 70s Filmation...lower than...hmm, lower than the freakin' Brady Kids?!

Are you crazy!? A lot of the good anime actually have great storylines, deep plots that maybe you just can't understand!
It's better than anything Walt Disney or Pixar could come up with! That's a fact!

Just watch a few episodes of Excel Saga or better yet, the movie Puni Puni Poemy and you'll feel MUCH better... I shall say no more :P

Actually, deviantart has a larger selection of conventional comic book characters than anime-based stuff....
