First make sure your tire is hot. a good sticky tire is a shinko if you just have a factory.
To practice, stay in first gear. when you get over 40 squeeze the clutch in and rev your rpms up past 6 or 7 it depends you'll have to test that out to see if thats enough power for your bike to come up. But after the rpms get past 6 or 7 pop the clutch. (meaning just it go completely) the sudden instant power driven from you revin the engine and then instantly popping the clutch will make the tire spin. Make sure you shift your weight towards the back. This technique works, I am the only girl in my way that can do a decent wheelie, but mine is a zx9 its got a lot over power.
If it comes up to fast don't panic, just stop throttling and the front will come down, or tap your rear brake. You will find a balancing point after a lot of practice and then you will be able to ride them out longer.
So if yours does not come up at 6 or 7 rpms then take it up further and make sure you are in first gear thats got the most power.

Of course when you've got that down. you can try doing it faster and in second gear. Good luck! and becareful I have seen alot of good riders go down from doing wheelies so be safe!

You're talking about a bike that lifts the wheel by itself past 7000rpm while accelerating at full throttle in the first three gears. The question should be, how do you not wheelie. And beside that what are you doing trying to wheelie with a passenger? Any kind of driving that would get you a ticket is downright irresponsible while carrying a passenger. Nobody can really tell you how to do it safely anyway it will come to you with experience. You should take your time and get to know the bike and your limits, learn from other peoples mistakes, do not try to do a wheelie just yet, like I said it will come to you but until it does you're not ready because it will flip backwards on you real quick and if you survive it you will still trash your awesome bike but with a passenger involved you should ask yourself: Do you really want to possibly hurt you're friend?
