First thing let the doctor no you are scared of doctors, this will give the doc a better understanding of why you do not go on a constant bases (and make her not ask those questions to you).
Take someone in with you who is close to you (you wont be so embarrassed with), and can calm your fears, if you have no one, they do have a curtain to close.
I make the doctors shut all blinds and or windows too. This makes me more comfy. I also no what is in all the drawers, closets, all those cubies are full of too. If they are going to make me sit there, I will entertain myself lol!!!
But really you do have a fear that others do, you are not the only one!!

Many people have trouble going to the doctor, whether it's the smell of a doctor's office, the environment, a fear of needles, or something like that. A full physical usually comprises reflex tests, blood pressure, temperature, weight. If you need an internal exam a GP will usually refer you to a gynecologist.
The doctor has been trained to help people and has done these exams many times. If you're still concerned you can ask to have a nurse or someone else in the examining room with you.

Take along a good magazine and just relax. It is more hype than it is worth. Maybe you are like me. Female doctor's = No for me. I will only see a male Doctor as I only feel comfortable with them. I just think there is something wrong with a woman Dr. wanting to look at me. As you get older it gets allot easier. Do not think so much about or switch your doctor!! Good Luck

You might want to consider seeing a midwife. Midwives just dont deliver babies they do all kinds of women's care. I have heard this story many times. A midwife tends to practice in a more comfortable atmosphere. Some work at offices out of their home, others in business offices. Most insurances covers well women checks and they can do a physical as well. I would highly consider midwifery for you. Hope this helps. Peace

You need to relax, it's a female doctor. You'll never be totally uncovered anyway. But the best thing would be for you, to talk to her about how you feel and how nervous you are. And that's why you're putting it off all the time. She'll understand, if she is a compassionate person and maybe give you something to relax.
It is a necessity to go. It's your health!

As odd as it may sound, if you actually say aloud to your Doctor, "I'm nervous because....(fill in)" and talk about it a few minutes with her it will help.
By bringing your subconscious fears to the conscious world by actually engaging in a dialogue over it directly with the Doctor, you can greatly reduce the problem.
Best wishes.

doctors appointments are always bad no matter what your going for. you can almost always count on being violated or made to feel uncomfortable no matter what. as far as having your female exam. it is embarrassing and uncomfortable, but. they are doctors, they do it all the time. they really dont think anything about it. and a pap-smear can save you life. i know

well first of all admit the problem.... are you scared of what the doctor is go in to say? or scared of what the doctor is go in to see?.... hey.. don't sweat it i work in an ER. at a hospital and trust me you should be shy.... there's nothing the doctor hasn't seen..... doctors or health personnel are nobody to judge... so just go in there..... and get your checkup.....relax and try to think of other things....:-) good luck and don't' sweat it...
