I saw this little flame on my gas fireplace and my fireplace was turned off(I just bought a house recently) so I blew it out. Now it doesn't start... I asked my friend and he said that I blew out the Pilot light...Can I just light a match near where I blew this out and everything will be back to normal?

Traveler...it's just a light switch. I don't think I can do that.

a safety feature should be on the gasline leading to the fireplace pilot ;ight which must be pushed when relighting the pilot. it should be just like one on a gas furnace or gas water heater. if you can't locate it, ask a neighbor or have someone from an appliance staore come light it for you. if you locarte the safety, you should follow any instructions for lighting the pilot. don't try to force it to light as additional safeties would also be disabled if you do.

Depends on how much ventilation you have there. Unless you turned the pilot light's gas feed off -- your description sounds like you didn't -- it's still giving off gas. This is good (you can relight it) and bad (you may be getting a buildup of gas which could explode).

I think your best move would be to turn a fan on the fireplace -- from about four feet away -- and let it blow away any concentration of gas that may have built up. (If you haven't got a fan handy, a magazine can work as a fan.) Then light a match and hold it about a quarter inch from the pilot light and it should ignite again.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! There is a small turn valve that was the words (off, on, pilot or even set). That valve is leaking. You need to get it fixed right away. After getting it fixed, hold the turn valve on set and light the pilot. Hold it for 5 seconds and switch the valve back to pilot. After a few seconds turn it to on. Thats how to do it, but get the valve fixed first! Oh, make sure your gas is tured off before doing this operation.
