Our children have clogged up our toilet. I have tried plunging it, but it isn't unclogging. However, the problem is this... Normally, after time, the water will eventually go down and you can plunge and it will be fine. But right now, that isn't happening. It is staying full and keeps overflowing even though it isn't running. I have to keep emptying it with a bucket. Then it fills up again. Does anyone know how to fix this? I tried to turn the water to the tank off, but it started leaking.
I hope someone can help me!!!
Thanks so much!
God Bless!

We have a septic system and it was just pumped in June, so I know that isn't the problem.

Since you have a well and septic system I suggest you call a plumber with this issue because you need to have the drains snaked ( i'm concerned that it is backing up and over flowing with out you using it however it may be something more that a stopped up toilet) it could become more costly if not corrected NOW.

It sounds like your blockage is further down the line, as you say it keeps filling up, with no use. So when something else is used, like the sink next to the toilet, the toilet is lowest in the line, and that water is coming up through there. And if your angle stop is still leaking after you shut it off, you'll have to shut the main off, and replace it. While doing so, check all the other angle stops and replace any other bad ones at the same time. Back to your clog. First, try "ROOTO" professional drain cleaner. Follow directions to a tee, as it contains sulfuric acid. And use gloves.
Use it in the toilet, and sink, then see what happens. If one of your kids dropped a toy down the toilet, you're into more work. It just doesn't make sense, though, that the toilet keeps filling up when it is not being used. It has to be the low point of the clog.

Ist thing every time the toilet stops up, pull out the overllow line so it doesnt keep putting water in the bowl. You may have to clip or tie iit down, but that little hose that goes down the overflow tube runs the water around the rim and does put out a lot of water, when the tank is full it will shut off.
You probably will need to wait some time for the water to recede before you can start plunging again.

Go to HomeDepot and buy a Closet Auger, It's pretty easy to figure out how to use it. Just a cable that goes thru the toilet. If that doesnt work, The toiler can be lifted up by turning off the water, Removing that water line, Removing the two floor bolts. Turn that baby upside down and get the little race cars out of. I've done it 100's of times over 23+ years.

Sounds like you have a main line plug down the line past the toilet. The kitchen sink and bath sink drain lines hook in the main line also ---when water is run in either sink -- it goes down and fills the main line full of water(because its blocked) and then will "back up" flooding the toilet. Do you live in a 2 story house with a bathroom upstairs? Stop flushing this one til you clear out the main line--this will cause flooding downstairs. To lessen this problem -- you could find the "clean-out" somewhere outside your house close to the wall propably--take the end cap off. This will allow the sewage to run out on the ground and help for a day or two. You are going to have to snake out the main line and get it unplugged.

You need to try a comode auger . This is a devise you can use in the comode while it is still bolted to the floor. You might have a toy or something simular in the comode hole. As far as your leaks you can tighten the shut off valve with two wrenches. One part needs to be held with one wrench while being tightened with the other. Also make sure the comode bolts are snug. These are the bolts that fasten it to the floor. If the comode auger did not help then you will need to pull the comode from the floor and snake it out. This sounds like a hard job but it is simple.Call one of your male friends to help you out

This is no easy job. Turn the water supply off to your house if possible. Then you should call a plumber or someone qualified for the job. The toilet needs snaked and possibly taken off from the floor. Good luck!!

you're just going to have to call someone to fix this. or else it will happen over and over again. you should get a toilet that lets you flush toilet paper. tell your kids to be careful and to no flush anything other than toilet paper (even regular paper or paper towels or napkins) take care of this because it can get expensive
