I got sober by getting help for the depression that kept me drinking.
I tried AA again and again for 20 years with no success. In AA my depression was ignored and sometimes ridiculed, and I got worse.

Besides getting professional help, you can help yourself, too :)
You can do it if you are determined. Nothing is easy, and you must know that to get rid of alcoholic addiction is challenging.
Many people drink for numerous reasons. What is the reason why drink? If you drink to escape reality, then you must face it right now. There is no treatment more effective than confronting reality and accepting it.
Another reason that people drink is because it helps fulfill the empty space in them. They need something to substitute a desire/emotion/feeling/memory that they may or may not have or want to forget. But drinking does not help you feel better, but only makes you more reliant on it the next time you feel lonely, depressed, or empty.
Find a good friend or confidante who will listen to you and understand. Soon you will find something better to do than drinking. If you are determined, you can do anything. Good luck.

Yes there is hope and treatment. Unfortunately no cure but treatment which will allow you to lead a normal and productive life. It would be helpful to know what state you are in many states have funds for assisting people pay for drug treatment. There are medications to assist in withdrawal and counseling helps with the emotional pain. Alcoholics Anonymous is not treatment but an excellent place to receive support and learn what is necessary for a sustained recovery. Good luck and don't give up .

You should call your local AA and get support from them. My husband was in the emergency room when they told him if he continued to drink he was going to die, and he never took another drink. He is only 34 and we have a small child. He has been sober for about 4 months now. I know AA will give you a sponsor who you can call any time. If you feel you are beyond meetings and you need more help, my husband's doctor had mentioned some medication that he could have given him to help him detox so you might check with your doctor. Or, you could always check yourself into rehab. Look in your yellow pages, or just go to yellowpages.com and type in alcohol treatment. Hang in there...this is the first step and you should be proud of yourself.

Alcohol addiction is a habit that is persistent and hard to break. It really takes a deep desire to stop. The monopoly that is the quack AA program, taints all the recovery programs. I can only suggest you can stop but you will have to set your life up so it is not possible to do anyymore.
I know more people who were successful by starting an exercise program that forced them to quit smoking and drinking too.
you need to want something else more. and than do that something else that is better for you.

There are hospitals, which treat drug and alcohol abuse.
You can do anything "IF" there is something you want more than that next drink or drug.
Look at Alice Cooper!
Heroin addict for 20 or 30 years and fell in love with the game of Golf.
He could not do heroin and play Golf.
So he over came his love and addiction to heroin because he loved of Golf more and did it without a treatment center.
Find something you love more than that next drink.

It is a very serious disease.and should be treated like a disease. a chemical dependency counselor and alot alot of support from family and friends. there are other options, treatment inpatient outpatient,ant-abuse etc.
look into what works for you and see a doctor so you know how much damage has been done to your body.
There is as much hope as you want to give it. You want to do it, you will.
