The labor unions are killing them. Along with the health care for retirees.

When GM pays people 30.00 an hour to sit around because of slow sales, something is wrong. I believe in good pay, but not to sit on my ***. No company can survive by paying people to sit because the production lines are slow or stopped.

This is compete lunacy. My Father taught me nobody owes you anything. You have to work for everything....Sounds like good advice.

Another issue is pensions. Since Ford and Firestone are old companies, they have a HUGE pension outlay. Just like the problems facing Social Security, their pension plans were based on the concept that the active workers would contine to contribute, and their contributions would pay the retiree's pensions. Now, with downsizing and industry moving offshore where they don't have to offer pensions, they have more retirees collecting than they do active workers contributing. So the pension funds are dried up.

If this scares you, think of this: this is EXACTLY what is going to happen to Social Security in 20 years or so.
