what do you think is the best way to have a baby? epidural, naturally, or a c-section? also, do you get hemorrhoids during pregnancy or after you give birth?

As a mom of 3 boys who delivered all 3 naturally---that is without any drugs (i.e. epidural). I wouldn't do it any other way. I felt so empowered knowing that I did it all on my own. I was pretty proud of myself. Don't go into labor with your mind set one way or the other, just in case things do not go as you have planned in your mind; they never do :) If you are thinking about going without drugs, know that you can do it!!! It isn't impossible to do, just takes a strong will, I guess? And yes, unfortunately hemorhoids are a lovely reward of pregnancy. I have been very lucky to escape them, but know a lot of women who haven't been so lucky :( Hang in there if you do get them though. They do lessen quite a bit after pregnancy, so there is hope!!!
Good luck!!!

personally i prefer natural. the lack of medication allows the baby to be more alert and active and gives you the option of functioning immediately after the birth. There is no, sit around and wait time, due to an epidural. A C-Section is a terrible idea unless unavoidable. its a long recovery time and there are more risks involved.
No epidural also gives you the freedom to get up and go to the restroom, walk, and move around during the labor.
I know it helped me being able to feel everything that was going on as opposed to being numb from an epidural.

as for hemorrhoids, you can get them during pregnancy or during birth... i think they are common with some people, but i know plenty of women who have no problems with hemorrhoids throughout or after their pregnancy

Epidural was the best thing for me....pain drugs were made for a reason, so pushing a human being out without drugs just seemed silly to me. A c-section might sound good to some people, but the recovery is horrible, as it is major surgery. Also, if you have a c-section, you don't get to hold your newborn right away, and they are often times fed by nurses while you are in recovery, which can mess up the feeding when the baby is reunited with you. I recommend taking the epidural!!!

I'm not sure what causes hemorrhoids after birth, although I suspect that guided/forced pushing during birth has a lot to do with it. Second stage is much gentler and easier on both mom and baby if it's allowed to happen spontaneously and instinctively.

So is labor in general. Which means no drugs. We don't take drugs all pregnancy, why suddenly in labor? It *does* get to the baby, and has other side effects such as making episiotomy (shudder), hemorrhaging, and c-section much more likely, and interferes with bonding with the baby. I'd suggest checking out books or articles by Henci Goer, Sarah Buckley, Sheila Kitzinger, Pam England, Marsden Wagner... and learning the truth about drugs and other non-medically-indicated interventions in labor.

I have had two c-sections and one natural birth with nothing. While it is more painful initially to go without the epidural and go natural, the recovery is well worth it. Do not be afraid to ask for medication though.
As for c-sections, they are harder to recover from, and they don't expell the fluid from the babies lungs as well.
I think that they should only be done when it is medically necessary.
INatural if at all possible is the way to go.
As for hemoroids, they are common in pegancy because of the increased pressure and weight gain, they usually go away afterward.

Have a baby vaginally and with an epidural, a c-section is major surgery and takes a long time to recover from. I had hemorrhoids while pregnant and unfortunately they stayed

I am a mother of 3 kiddos. I've given birth to my 3rd one just 4 months back. In my opinion, it really depends on your pain tolerance level. You shld try w/o it first just to have an experience what labor is like & if really yr dilation is slow, my advise is to take the epidural. I support natural birth. The healing is definitely faster. I cld even get off the bed just couple of hrs aft my delivery. There's definitely no pain when you urinate. As for hemorrhoids, it is after birth. Anyway, it's painless.

Doctors say that the best way is natural. Both of mine were c-sections. My daughter's head and shoulders were too big for a natural birth so they put me to sleep. My son was a scheduled c-section because he was so big. They gave me an epidural which I'd never had before and that was a trip.

You can get hemorroids anytime.

I would say epidural, but I was never lucky enough to get one-lol I had both of mine natural. I wouldnt go c-section unless you have to, they say it is very painful and takes awhile longer to heal than natural birth. Epidurals have risks too and your doc will go over them with you. Some women get hemhoroids during pregnancy but, not all. I never had them and I have had 2 children. Good Luck!

Honestly it is 100% up to you - you are the only one who knows what you can handle. i wanted a 100% natural birth and I was very close to having it - I was up to 39 hours of labor - I was stuck in early labor for about 30 hours so they ended up giving me pitocin which speeds contractions and makes them much much stonger and closer together. After about 38 hours or so I was demanding drugs and I was too far dialated for my first option of morphine so I had to get a epidural - but it took about 45 mins to get the anethesia guy in there.... but after I got it my daughter was born 2 hours later and she would have been born about an hour and 15 later but they couldn't find my midwife to do the "catching" lol.

When I go again I will try and hold out as long as I can agani because I believe it did help with my recovery time to not have been drugged for that long - and I hope that next time I will know that the worst part doesn't last that long (3 hours comparisoon to 30 lol) so I will try and hold out.

Also - a lot of women have told me that onmce they had to get a drug to alter their natural contractions - ie: pitocin - that they couldn't stand the pain of the increased contractions - cause yes it will most likely hurt like hell - but worth it in the end. Just avoid one of the drugs that some places still use to induce - Cytotec - can cause placental abruption and a number of other issues and it is made for abortions - not deliveries.

Just read as much as you possibly can - rent movies - take classes if you can - watch the videos and see what your choice is.

Just an FYI about when I had my epi- my butt on my left side was numb for a whole day and my back itched so badly after they took out the needle for about a week that I had to use hydrocortisone cream and I stills cratched at it constantly. And my lower back hurt quite a bit for a few weeks - but that was also poor posture while breastfeeding in a recliner :)

as for hemmoriods - I've had them my whole adult life but most women Ive talked to got them both during pregnancy and after birth because of all the pushing. My daughter was out after only 10 minutes of pushing - about 3-4 pushes - so i didn't have any from that. But they give you all sorts of stuff like tucks pads and stuff to numb that area in case you do get them afterwards - Just be sure to tell the nurse and they will hook you up :).

Good luck
