Well, if we're talking militarily or economically the US.
China's not far behind in economy (but way worse in terms of living conditions).

In terms of military. . . Okay, one US carrier group, all by itself, constitutes the 8th most powerful military force on earth, and we have at least half a dozen of them. All of them carry nuclear weapons. Just some perspective.

CANADA We're about LOVE LIFE and FREEDOM

And we will defend that to the end.

We are a huge country, geographically, with a small population. It took men and women of great vision, courage and perseverance
to build a society that embraces the concept of the goodness of Man.

That may seem like a grandiose statement and sort of self serving and maybe even biased.

I guess it gets down to the ethics and beliefs (as a Canadian) that I grew up to believe.

That all human beings have a right to be free
to be loved
to be heard
to be

Unless it infringes on others.

You may not believe it (probably not) but the most powerful force on earth is love.

Even war is an act of love.

There is always two sides to war and I guess you have to decide where you stand with God. Do you believe in evil? Rape, murder, torture, slavery.

Would you be willing to give up your life and liberty to defend these values?

Where does the love come in?

There are people in the world who will stand up and
say "This is wrong and I'm willing to die on a battlefield to protect my beliefs. Is this love?

Or they might think , or they might cry, or they might fight.

Which one is love

Convoluted kinda answer but I stand by it. You may not realise it now but Canada and its national psycology will rule the world in 50 years.

Just had to add a PS. I looked at some other answers and everyone seems to relate power to money or armaments. On the surface this would seem to have a certain amount of validity. On the other hand you have to consider the source and know that these things do not exist in nature but are a construct of the human mind. Where is the true power in the universe?

In your head.

PPS: Does, power, influence, force, bribery, coersion, and threats make a country powerful. Only in the short term. Ask a Roman

USA is the most powerful country in the world but China will be within this generation.

They have the largest military machine in the world. Our military is spread thin on expensive occupations abroad while they avoid conflicts and jealously guard their borders. They own most of our debt of the last 6 years as we spend freely. They are a very industrious manufacturing and agricultural society, whereas we are now a service economy. We export our manufacturing jobs while we are awash in lawyers, stockbrokers, Wal-Mart greeters, and real-estate agents.

We are currently #1 because have clout in this world, China doesn’t. We have unimaginable freedom, they don’t. There is a mystic about our way of life which drives people to our shores. We have lots of good credit.

Where we will lose out in the next few years is that the Chinese dream is a house, a job, and the necessities of life, the American dream is a motor homes, SUV’s, swimming pool, long vacations, plasma TV’s, and shorter working hours as we wallow in debt. If you understand my drift, BarQs, on the long haul we are currently at the losing end of this game.

It's a tough question due to different factors!

China has a low pay labor force, and alot more people. And aliances with japan who has the money for nukes.

but the united states is in the running, because it is the newest and youngest counrty but has built itself up so quickly!we also has good aliences, but not as good as japan.

so i suppose china could wip our bun-cakes!

In terms of manpower contribution the US,in terms of political and intellectual contribution UK,Germany, Egypt and Japan and in t.of technological advancement Germany,Japan and US.But since the introduction of the Euro I think UK has risen above Germany so it could be either of these three: USA ,Japan or UK.
