the census bureau only counts us population and they do this every ten years.
the UN puts together census data from participating countries and estimates the rest

The United States census bureau count the population of the US every ten years. There is no World Census Bureau.

The United Nations project world population annually. It's called World Population Prospects. Most every Western country has it's own population bureaus, and I suspect that they do the same statistical calculations at the commerce department's, U.S. Bureau of the Census

The Census Bureau counts the U.S. population every 10 years. The world's population I don't think is counted by then, it may be compiled by each countries census, if any is taken.

In canada the census is done every three years. It is used more by the city planning boards to they know how many schools, parks, community centers, etc they need for any given area rather than just to count th population

They do the math based on average statistics from reported recorded births and then...they just guess.
With so many unrecorded births and deaths, that is all they can do is go by the average statistics for a day and then multiply it by 365 days a year.
