Either they don't know you already know the answer, assuming you only ask questions you need an answer to which you don't know.
Or.
They just give an answer they hope is workable to avoid being "cold" and "uncaring" by not venturing an answer.
Or.
Your bf is a pathological liar.

Mostly because they're hoping you don't know...they think you might but there's always a chance you don't. So they are prepared to take the gamble, if they lose, well they'll be in the dog house for a couple of days and then life goes on. They know that too.

My soon to be Ex does that all the time and I even confront him immediately about it and ask him why he does it when I let him know that i know the truth. He still carries on the lies.
He thinks that I am a stupid woman that will believe any thing that he says. Why he does this , I will never know. He even contradicts his self. Shameful , is all i can say.

Well as a man we are born liers but as we get older we learn that truth is allways the best .Depending on how old you are and he is and your relationship with him be carefull take your time if he does this all the time to you forget him find a new friend.Have a nice day ....john.

You can make a guy lie just by asking a question, then wait til he finishes answering, then say; I'm sorry I asked that, I think I had already known that answer, but forgot.

It's probably because they are like guilty little boys who know that they can't slip a fib past mommy.
And we're not all dumb, either. Some of us don't even have partners because of the headaches. This situation is partly your fault since you don't pick guys who are as smart as you think you are.

Some do it because they already know what the answer is and just dont want to sound so plain or are just insecure about what to say.

if you already know the answer then dont ask.
And if these lies are about where he's been or what he's been doing...................dont ask at all, play stupid as if you dont suspect anything. Eventually , he'll get sloppy and you will have true evidence to throw in his face
