The National Electric Code states no limit on the number of receps on one circuit. If you're using an AFCI(arc fault cicuit intterupter) then you need one AFCI for each bed room and are required to have a recep every 12 ft of usable wall space. So no there is no limit on the number of receps, however, the 2002 edition of the NEC requires each bedroom to be on its own AFCI so you definately have a code violation unless the house was built prior to 2002 when that code went into effect.

The National Electrical Code is not the only code that you need to comply with. You must also comply with your local code which could require a more restrictive amount of receptacles on one breaker.
