Its really where they're made. Squier, while owned by Fender, makes their guitars overseas (Korea, usually). Fenders are either made in Mexico or here in America (the American series Strats, Teles, P-Basses, etc). Squier is considered to be Fender's "economical" guitar line, making cost-effective versions of Strats, Teles, etc., much like Gibson has Epiphone, Ibanez has the Soundgear series, and so forth. While these "cost effective" versions may not always go on par with their namesakes, they usually are sturdy pieces of musical workmanship and can last you a long time and provide years of musical enjoyment.

Squire is made by Fender. It has basically the same quality but a cheaper price. A normal Fender may only be 1 extra knob.for tone

Squiers are affordable models in comparison with the other Mexican, Japanese or American made fenders. They are generally made in Korea. Basically cheaper materials and labor is used for those guitars to keep the costs down. Squiers might have been used as a beginner tool but as you built some advanced skills you will probably ask for other expensive fender models. On the other hand you may also want to keep the squier if you do some pickup modification

To be honest.there's not much difference.
In fact,Iv'e played Squires that play and sound better then the original fenders. It's all about the individual guitar.

The quality, you pay for what you get... a Squire doesn't have the same tonal qualities and sound as a real Srat...
