I've had dreams before where I subconsciously knew that I was just dreaming. I mean, sometimes I have dreams where I'm just watching myself outside my body and sometimes I have dreams where I am actually experiencing things as if I was really there. I don't know the science behind it, but it IS possible to know you are dreaming when you are dreaming.

Some people can tell. There are a few who are gifted this way, but anyone can learn to do it. It's called lucid dreaming. I've heard that they use a cue of some sort to remind them that they're dreaming, and eventually, they begin to recognize it and then they can control the dream. I've heard it takes a long time to learn, like 3 months. The cue can be a little vibrating armband or a bell, anything that will remind them. The brain usually works these cues into the content of the dream, so eventually they learn to recognize it.

I cant believe you've never had a dream like his. Although only about a fourth of my dreams I know Im dreaming in, it still happens considering I dream everynight. He's right, and when I know Im dreaming, I try to control the dream and make things happen. Sometimes I can make things happen and sometimes I cant control a thing, either way I still know Im just dreaming.

Yes, you can know you are dreaming while you are dreaming and even know what is going to happen next, if it is a recurring dream. You can also realize in the middle of a dream that you are dreaming and wake up. If you have a dream you have dreamt more than once it can actually be fun.

Yes. I can tell, but it usually causes conflict because my waking self says something like "Oh, I feel warm and comfortable, but the material does not feel like my sweater." And then it dawns on me "Oh, no! This is not what I planned to wear today, but I was in such a hurry and ran out the door!" and then I look at myself and see I am wearing my sweatshirt that I would not wear out in daylight!
Or the same thing about going somewhere -- I find myself going somewhere I could not be going because I have to be at work -- I pull out my checkbook, I see the calendar, I see the day, and I know it is a work day, yet I find myself on some tourist bus to a place I do not even want to go!
I usually wake up -- happily!

It is possible. It is called a lucid dream. Some people have lucid dreams while others do not. If you want to increase the likelihood of having a lucid dream, try keeping a dream journal.

I've never been in a dream and known it was a dream. They all seem real. Once I had a dream within a dream. That was weird. I can't really explain it. It just felt that way when I woke up.

Yes, it is possible to know that you are dreaming while you are in a dream. This is the best kind of dreaming, because you can often interact with it, problem solve, and you are much more likely to remember the dream after you awake. I have experienced this myself at times.
There is a name for this. It is called "lucid dreaming." For more information on this see the links below.

yes! I had a dream like that the other night, I knew in my dream that I was asleep and dreaming but couldn't seem to wake myself up. I really wanted to wake up too, it was a kinda creepy dream. It happens when you're not in "nirvana", you're mind hasnt relaxed enough to let sleep take over completely

No, there's studies about that happening, about people being able to change their dreams like that. I have that issue sometimes, but mostly I think my dreams are real.
