as an answer to your question the elecricity is being created by cutting the magnetic field,with mechanical armature or plate....which in turns create electriciry......
so the hydroelectric is the way of creating the electricity by using the flow of the river , in the place of falls the river from the top while falling down creates a force which helps to run the turbine....which inturn cuts the magnetic field , helping in the generation of electricity....this is the main principle behind hydroelectricity..

so all the places where the manmade dams is there, generally it is being accomplained by a hydroelectricty plant for the generation of electricity...but there are dams without hydroelectricity also...one of the main purpose of dams is Hydro plant...
