Years ago - voted for Clinton...I guessed right that time. He won. But I ended up hating the guy because of his infedelities, lies and scandal.... So, voted for Bush twice... Not to happy about that either. Economy is bad and we are in a war... So, even though I guessed right both times - want to try to do better at the polls for the governor race. I usually vote a strait ticket - it's alot easier... Any advice???

I'm sorry, I'm making light of the fact that every time I voted the person I voted for won. I don't really guess who will win -it was who I thought was good at the time. I'm not affiliated with either party though.

Vote Democrat - It's time to take our lemons and make lemonade....

There are way too many Republicans in office and we are in danger of becoming holy-rolling terrorists ourselves.

Actually - if you want - you can vote for a moderate Republican if the Democrat is a jerk.... it really isn't about the party but about the person.

Yes democrats will raise taxes. But who doesn't enjoy having quality schools, healthcare for grandma and freshly paved roads that will save money on auto repairs???

Here's the simple answer:

Do you like the way the country is going? Do you approve of the way things have been handled in the past six years? Are you better off now than you were when Clinton was in office?

Then vote Republican.

Do you disapprove of the direction the country is heading? Do you feel confident with the country in Bush's hands? Were you better off when Clinton was in office?

Then vote Democrat.

You can vote for a third-party candidate as well. But understand that we're years (perhaps generations) away from a third-party candidate ever winning something as large as the presidency. The existing two parties are just too powerful with too much money.

And as someone else posted... you're not voting to guess who's going to win. You're voting because you believe that this person is fit to lead our country, win or lose. Do some research on your own, google everything, try to figure out what's important to you, then pick the candidate who's views are closest to yours.

PS To Princess Meltdown: Though I agree with the spirit of your response, I don't believe that a one-party system necessarily is a good thing for the country. The framers built our system the way it is for a reason -- checks and balances to encourage debate and ensure that all viewpoints are represented before written into law. Congress is not there for the President. Congress is there to represent the States... you, me, and everyone in between.

Honestly, before this election I would NEVER recommend not voting, but this year...I do not know. I wish we could all get together and decide as a nation to have no one vote. I wish there was a way to fix the government, but I just don't see it. It's sad and scary that we are stuck where we are now. If we had a great choice for either affiliation, I would vote twice if I could. So far all I have seen is mudslinging and name calling. It's getting more ridiculous every day. It's embarrassing for us, as a country, to have fallen to this level. I have seen kindergartners deal with conflict better than these adult men and women running for office.
I guess this didn't answer your question at all, but I feel a little bit better for venting.

The fact that you plan to vote is VERY encouraging. And while the Presidential election is very important, you're very wise to pay attention to your state and local elections as well. Whichever party you decide to vote for in the Presidential election, they need to have a majority in the House and Senate in order to have an effective administration.

If the President's party is not in majority, just about everything he wants to do will be tied up and held hostage. Then everyone wonders why the President isn't getting anything done.

My suggestion would be to examine what your representatives have done for you in the last 4-6 years. How effective have they been? What bills did they sponsor? Did the bills pass? How did they vote on bills presented? How was their attendance (this is usually a very interesting statistic... are they doing their job, or are they off on some 'fact finding' expedition on a golf course?)

What's important to you? Are you a parent? What are the 3 most urgent needs in your community? Who's addressing them? Give your representatives a report card grading. And whichever party tends to align with your own beliefs, hopefully you'll also want their Presidental candidate to win.

The best thing you can do is become an informed voter. I'm a Republican so I can only suggest the conservative titles, but here you go:

Magazines: National Review, The Weekly Standard

Talk Radio: Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Hugh Hewitt (really smart, but speaks in plain English), Laura Ingraham

Blogs and websites: In addition to the talk show folks above, there's National Review OnLine, OpinionJournal.com

As for your statements that the economy is bad, please note that our unemployment rate had only one tenth of a percent difference between GWBush and WJClinton.

We're in a war... yes, we are. I would urge you to search for any articles written by Claudia Rosset (usually on www.opinionjournal.com) and see what she has to say about the OIL FOR FOOD program. And remember that the Afghan war is in response to 9/11, which George Bush has had to manage, but which began about 20 years ago under a different president. I, for one, am grateful that we have a COMMANDER IN CHIEF who is prepared to call our troops to arms when necessary, not just threaten without any backbone.

Good luck!

Don't try and guess who is going to win. Try and learn something about each candidate. Don't vote just on their party but what they stand for. Most of the time them seem to stand for simular things. I like to watch their debates and see who is the better speaker. I'm voting Democrat just as I did in the last two elections. If the Democrats raise taxes it'll only be because we need to. Come on, the Republicans just spend and spend. That money has to be paid back eventully.

All politicians (Democrat or Republican) are normal people.

They will fail.

They will disappoint.

They will make mistakes.

They are human.

I'm not for Bush either. I'm not too sure about Clinton. What matters most is not necessarily with the popular vote--but with your gut. Research. Make an educated decision. Decide your own morals on the way. You'll find who is best in your eyes. Don't let anyone tell you different. The only way to vote correctly is to research and make an educated decision. Don't go with strictly with a political party--you need to be educated on ALL candidate's views, beliefs, and plans. Best of luck. Trust your gut and I'm sure you'll do great!

Since you have voted before, you do not have to vote straight ticket. Just pick the person who you think would be better for the job. Remember, it is the people we vote for that makes all decisions. One thing I don't like is the candidates putting his opponet down. I think that is dirty, so I usually don't vote for the dirty ones...if they do that before they are voted in, just think, their position will go to their head and it's hard to tell what they will do. Also, there are some crooks out there - they are good actors, so sometimes you cannot tell... Thank goodness my town is starting to get the old fashioned people out and get some new, up-to-date blood in there!!! Some of them are just plain troublemakers nit- picking on their neighbors, instead of thinking about real issues

NEVER vote a straight ticket--there's always an idiot on every side. Last 2 Presidential elections, I voted for the one man who could have made a true difference...Ted Nugent.
