I am a road warrior. I have the Verizon Wireless Broadband, but want a wireless (wi-fi) hand held so I don't have to log on to my laptop every 30 minutes. I don't want a pda/phone that requires a data plan, which is another $50 a month.

The Dell Axim x51v is exactly what you want. Get them while they last as all the Pocket Pc's are converting to the pda/phone.

I love my Axim--it does everything and the Wi-fi works great.
The OS MS word and excel along with outlook and a good program for calender/dates/contacts and reminders.

I added software SPB Pocket plus that enhances the Today screen putting all those functions you want right at your fingers tips and adding the ability for file transfer, close button, and opening more than one IE screen at the same time while surfing.

I could go on forever but suffice it to say--the Axim is a great machine by Dell.

Just WiFi no Smartphone? Then stay away from Blackberry, Palm Treo and selected models (I know some iPaqs are) not sure why previous posts had suggestions of Blackberry and Treo but you do say no Smartphone data plan, although you can still use them as normal cells with PIM functions slapped on.

Most PDAs on the market can do what you want. WiFi is a fancier item at this point.

I would recommend either the Palm Tungsten T/X or the Palm LifeDrive for your needs.

Palm Tungsten T/X (retails for $299)
http://www.palm.com/us/products/handhelds/tx/

Palm LifeDrive (retails for $399)
http://www.palm.com/us/products/mobilemanagers/lifedrive/

Both handhelds offers built-in WiFi and Bluetooth, SD card slot for expansion, great set of software that will allow you to open, create, and edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files, and a gorgeous large screen.

The only difference is that the LifeDrive also inclueds a built-in voice recorder, and has a 4GB hard drive to store many files, including photos, documents, videos, and even your DVDs (with special software).

While there are no true handhelds that are laptop replacements, and handhelds will be much slower than laptops, the T/X or LifeDrive get close to such a replacement.

I would also recommend buying a wireless keyboard, if you plan to do a lot of typing.

The best thing would be for you to go to a local electronics retailer and see the handhelds for yourself.
