the respiratory system is able to alter excreations of H+ and CO2 for example when there is metabolic acidosis the respiratory center in the brain is stimulated and this leads to increase in pulmonary ventilation so more of CO2 (acid) is moved out of the body and on alkalosis there is shallower breathing
the kidneys during acidosis secretes more H+ and less HCO3- is filtered through the kidneys than normal because more of it is used in buffering the excess H+ in the ECF and the opposite happens during alkalosis

It would be a different kind of buffer system, but I say the joints, esp. the ball and socket of the hip, knees, and shoulders.
