Hi I'm a freshman in highschool and I have kind of a general question. I am really good at languages and I am alreayd taking Spanish 3 this first half of the year (I am the only freshman who is taking spanish 3) and I also know how to fluently speak Italian,Albania and English. After finishing with Spanish, I plan to start doing some French, and I am also learning Greek. Will me knowing and learning these languages help me get in a very good college, I am aiming to get into the really good ones, the "Harvard Type of college" ?Thanks. : ]

Yes, do add Latin, it will be very highly regarded. After maybe three or four non-English languages, I think extra languages of themselves would tend to have a negative value - DEPTH of knowledge in one or two of them instead would have POSITIVE value. I mean the history of the language, as far back as you can get, word form variations, dialects, and recurrent literature themes also as far back as you can get. My daughter is studying German, and for complete understanding of current German literature styles they have to go right back to about 1200 AD and the "Niebelungen" legend.

maximum 4 year colleges and universities require which you're taking 2 years of distant places language in severe college. some will show you how to take a year of distant places language in school as a replace yet this is like taking 3 years of HS language in a year.

I don't know about getting into an American college, but if you really want a good education and not just a piece of paper, knowing multiple languages might help you get into a student exchange program. Many foreign universities are just as good as Harvard.

it definitely won't hurt but nothing's a sure bet, good grades, community service, related alumni, and outstanding standardized test scores all add up. I can tell you personally that high standardized test scores do NOT get you into the Ivy League, so I would say that only multiple languages wouldn't be enough either, definitely try to be multifaceted about it or whatever

yea try sending them some letters. all of those languages is a good way to stand out and be looked at by good colleges. you should also take Latin its a dead language but most languages derived form it.

i believe so, speacially if u r getting into "language" major or other major that requires using other language. they usually look at other factors also (SAT, gpa etc) good luck.
