consciousness is the experience of experiencing, the knowledge of knowing, the sense of sensing. Self identity is formed, reformed, and edited continually throughout our lives as a way of comparing the information collected through our consciousness to the continuing sensory data of the outside world. "Who am I?" equates continually to "how do I feel about this situation, and then what do I do about it now" you feel a certain way about a situation because of other situations that have been like it in the past, you react in the way you can best predict the outcome, and you do these things because of who you are. One must identify this as themselves to be comfortable with the decision making process because your experiences do not feel strongly about art or politics or what way you should maneuver your car next you do, and you call that your self identity. I think. Maybelogic, because of course I might read this tomorrow and think to myself "how ignorant of me, thats all wrotng!" but its the best I have to offer right this moment.

The key word in self identity is self. Starting from the genetic codes you got from your parents, down to every experience that you have gone though whether good or bad has made you the person you are today. Personality traits, bad habits, good habits, everything about you, even something that seems so small and insignificant, contributes to ones self-identity. I've been asked before "if i could change one thing at all over my entire life, what would it be". And my answer is i wouldnt change a thing. I could change my mother passing away, but then i dont think i would be as independant and stong as i am now. I could change moving from missouri to texas after getting laid off 3 years ago and am now in a slump, but then i wouldnt have met all the cool people that ive met over those 3 years. My relationship with my sister is stronger because of the things that have happened in my life and hers. Even something small could have changed the course of my life and i wouldnt be who i am now. I am proud of the person i am. And i am the way i am because of my life experiences. And i wouldnt change one thing.

identity is besides the fact that our cutting-edge actual existence is. subsequently, as our actual existence is dynamic and by no potential the comparable, we don't have the comparable identity now as on the different given 2d. EDIT: DNA is erroneous. Indentical twins have the comparable DNA, yet they don't have the comparable identity.

i am going to define 'identity' as 'essence'. that automatically rules out anything dealing with physical structures. so...i believe, most simply stated, one's thoughts determine his identity.
