for those 1000s of yrs of fighting we didnt hav the means to kill everything - we hav suddenly gone from being able to destroy a city [a dot on the globe] to being able to block out the sun permanently everywhere & freeze everything 3 times colder than an iceage with a 60th of the bombs we already hav

we hav to turn around 5000 yrs of 'happiness' or 'contentment' with, or inability to control & prevent, war - & less than 50 yrs to do it in - it is bigbig thinking-cap time - & ppl are still in massive denial of the problem

we dont yet know we hav injustice
[despite fortnight's pay from $1 to $1 billion, despite 225 ppl havng asmuchas 2.5 billion ppl]
we dont yet know that injustice causes the violence
[despite knowing what wd happen if a govt took 90% income off 90% ppl]
we dont yet know that violence is escalative
[despite 5000 yrs of violence escalation]
we dont yet know that our bombs hav planet-death capability
[despite the fact being scientifically uncontroversial]

You have mentioned only 5000 years in your detail, for we do not have a history of people fighting recorded prior to that. Simple truth is that, from the origin of this earth and life has come to being there are lives prone as prey for something. the big ones or the powerful ones wiping out the smaller ones and less powerflul ones. Happiness and contentment exist for people who seek for the same keeping themselves aloof of the changes taking place around them and believing non-interference is the first essential qualilty to be happy of oneself and for the society around.
Justice what you see, ultimate justice on what one believes are two different things. people who do not have anything, even 1$ may be very happy than a person possessing 1billion $, happiness scale is measured not in terms of $.
Violence is not due to just being haves and have-nots, there are so many other things as country of origin, colour of skin, religion, and our liking to be the no.1, the one-upmanship.
More than realising violence escalates, people count at the end of the day what they have gained out of violence from the many contradictions explained above.
We fully know that our bombs are planet-capability but we rejoice from the fact that we are the controlers of the society all over the world. Non-proliferation should be for all, not for a few. This is easier said than done.
Because of the above, fighting and more fighting takes place. We, human beings, with animal instincts have learnt to live, with the theory survival of the fittest.

We're learning. Look at the EU.

At least we got thru the cold war without blowing any nukes.
