I dialed the phone number of my friend but the answering machine says that the number you have reached is being checked for travel. What does it mean? Does it mean that they are out of town, the phone number is being disconnected, the phone number is no longer active. What are the other possibilities.

I'm just dialing a local number from our place. I'm from Detroit, our area code is (313) and I'm just calling a nearby city Southfield; which is (248) its local area code

Other possibilities? Is your friend out of the country? From experience, I know that that cell phoned from the U.S. do not work is some countries and you have to get service in that country. And unless you have be cleared, you can't just simply call internationally without a waiting period. I tried to get international dialing on my phone to use it ASAP but they said it takes 24 to 48 hours for the checking process. But you can always call your own cell phone carrier and ask them.

if the number wasn't isn't service, the message would say this number is not in service = sounds like just a network problem with your friends carrier

try calling a few times, if it's still down unforntunately there's nothing u can do

maybe her phone is being tapped. thats scary. or maybe if it was a cell it just means she has no bars. just a fancy way of saying it.
