i have been lookingn for a good, inexpensive place where i can get microdermabrasion done at. but i guess i have 2 questions: is there an alternative to microdermabrasion thats adolescent-friendly? i have scarring from acne on my face. i'm only 18 so i still get it now and then.
i've tried face masks and washing my face, but they obviously dont get rid of scars or roughness of my skin.

I would not recommend neither do-it-yourself peels nor microderm. It's a waste of your time and money. And you can do some damage to your skin with self-applied peels. In any case, the peels that are sold in a supermarket are not strong enough to produce any visible results. Stronger peels though readily available through Internet should be used only by a professional. And they can really help you a lot. Glycolic peels in concentration higher that 30% do wonderful exfoliation and reduce breaking out, pigmentation and fine wrinkles. Salicylic peels are great for oily and acne-prone skin. And do not forget to wear sun screen if you are doing either peels or microderm. Even on rainy days, even at home, yes, when you are inside. During and after exfoliation your skin is going to be very susceptible to UV damage.

Peels and microderm will definitely help to improve your skin appearance but do not be disappointed if they will do little to eliminate the scarring. They will help with the pigmentation from scarring but if you have scars that resemble chicken pox marks. The damage to the skin layers is too deep to be effected. Those need to be resurfaced or filled with dermal fillers at dermatologist/plastic surgeon's office.

And have you ever tried Retin-A cream? It really helps with acne, promotes exfoliation and improves skin tone. And THIS is really the least expensive option!

They do sell some microdermabrasion kits in the health and beauty aid section of Walmart. You might also look at the chemical peels they also sell. Depending on how deep your acne scars are, it may get rid of some of them.
