I have judged shows for years and have never liked yellow. I hope your bridle (& breastcollar if you use one) are also black. You didn't say what color or colors are in the girth but you need to have the same or close to the same in the girth & blanket. A black saddle was a good choice for a light Buckskin. A hunter green with white or silver threads/designs would look good. Other colors that look good on a buckskin are medium blue, combos of tan &brown, red but not a fire engine red. Sometimes it's worth the extra cost to have a blanket made for you. On my Quarter horses I used a saddle pad but then had a blanket made that covered the pad & went with my show outfit. With a black saddle, you don't want a dark blanket because it would just look like a dark "blob" instead of showing each part of the tack. Judges do evaluate tack along with the other items they judge. Also, be sure your son wears something that will compliment the color of his tack and his horse. The judges look at the entire picture: appearance of horse, gaits of horse, tack appearance, ability of rider, outfit of rider, and performance of horse. Tell your son to be sure his horse is clean & whiskers, stray hairs, hair in ears & bridle path are trimmed. Don't forget to clean the eyes, nostrils, mouth & ears. It also looks good if you darken the hooves. Another thing that makes a horse stand out is shine-put shine products on the mane, forelock & tail and you can even wipe the horses head lightly with it. And REMEMBER TO SMILE. A judge likes to see someone that looks like they are enjoying the horse & the ride. Good luck in all your future shows and rodeos.

go with the darker color on a light colored buckskin ....yellow is not a good complimentary color for most horses, same with palominos, pay attention to what colors your using if you are wanting to match...i would go with a richer color like purple, maroon, or a dark green, years ago the judges really paid a lot of attention to colors in show classes, there were some colors that were no nos, now there are so many new colors out there, i always match everything, right down to the colors i am wearing too, i have 5 different colors that i use when i rodeo....good luck...

on a buckskin horse you can never go wrong with the American flag print. I personally dont like the print but it looks good on buckskins. als you can do neon colored tack. that will make the horse, the saddle and the tack come out amazingly. just make sure to keep it clean.

I say all black with silver in lay to off set. I use to ride a palomino and I used royal purple for halter and lead rope. The saddle was english, black with standard saddle pad. Bridle was black as well. I love buck skins though. There is nothing more awsome then a will colored buck skin.
Take Care

I have an AQHA buckskin working cowhorse and nothing looks better on him than a light color blue. You could also use a multi-colored pad with blue, tan, and or light grey combo. With a black saddle you might want to use a little darker blue.

From a show judge point of view, yellow will not work. I'd stick with the brown, or choose a completely different color. I would prefer to see a royal blue or red or possibly purple.

Why not Black and add western (yellow or any other color) trim. I am assuming your bridle is black too--that helps if they match. And silver is a good Western trim (always sparkles).
Hope you get a ribbon--if not enjoy the rodeo. The outing should be better than the prize.

Keep it all black, why change the rythum. the majority of the horse is shown so the black won't be over powering. The buckskin will shine through.

I'd say brown would look really nice too, they have some pretty fancy things for show. You could find alot of it online and depending where you live, at a nice horse supply. Sounds like a gorgeous horse!
