The U.N. website is good to start. But realize any source may not be accurate nor up- to -date, regardless of claims to the contrary. But for the purposes of "social studies" it should be fine.

A really good and accurate source is the CIA World Factbook. You can check it out online by following the link. Sometimes websites like wikipedia get bad information. This is a source that you should be able to trust.

Whoops. Unfinished makes a great point about accuracy below. This is a good source, but anyone can make mistakes/be outdated.
