if you are in high school - don't worry about it.
You will all become the exact opposite of who you are today.
You find these "emotional" girls attractive because they are expressive, artistic, liberal and free spirited.... that means you have a liberal side that does not come out in your wardrobe....
Those grrrrls must have a "preppy" side too.
Let's put it this way - if she shops at "Hot Topic" and you shop at "Abercrombie" than you are both still shopping at the mall and there is really no difference in who you are.... you are both just following a blind trend or a marketing campaign....
Now - if she shops at The Salvation Army or makes her own clothes.... than she will probably be out of your league....

Quit putting people into categories. You're a person, she's a person. Neither is better or worse, or really even very different. High school cliches are so stupid. And none of the 'emo/punk' girls have one defined difference from any 'preppy' girl. ALL girls are different from each other. Don't think as if that if a group of people dress similarly that they're all one big person.

yeah, you can get along, personality-wise, unless the emo/punk girl is really into hardcore things. it's just a style, and that doesn't set up some kind of barrier between the two. it also depends if the girl is willing to be friends with the preppy guy..

I think any group can get along with any other group. After all, isn't it just about style...It is all about who you are on the inside. If there is a particular person you like in general, though, don't be the kind of person who only talks to her when others aren't looking. Be a stand up person and be able to take the jabs from your {other} friends.

Most 'punk' girls you are referring to aren't real punks, but rather are pop-punks that listen to whatever "punk" genre MTV decides to play.

well opposites attract!!
if you like a girl enough and if she's worth your time then you can make it work.
plus girls like that love to be "different" so isn't that the biggest act of rebellion??
