when i was a freshman in high school in guantanamo bay Cuba in 92 i remember my English teacher handing this book out and saying "feel lucky the kids in the states can't read this book because it been banned" i never understood why it a really great book

It wasn't banned across the U S A(maybe in some states). If it was banned it was probably for the salty language, and the episode where Holden picks up the Prostitute.

perhaps it was rumoured banned so as to boost sales.
as far as i know, many schools (even in asia) study that book, though i did remember reading about it being banned.
if it was; it was probably due to the mature themes and the supposedly bad influence of the holden in the novel.
