What will society need to do in order to progress?

What, in your opinion, does modern society and culture need to adopt and abolish in order to progress? For example, I think that before our society and culture can progress, we need to totally get rid of things such as:
• Extreme (and wrong) views
• Ignorance
• Racism
• Animal cruelty
• Mindless following (like following a religion which enforces ridiculous rules and views - let people live and form their own views. Religion would be fine if all it did was to teach basic morals, but most religions encourage at least some forms of intolerance or ignorance.)
• Dis-beleif in science/proven facts in favour of idiotic beleifs (e.g. Magic, ghosts and spirits, luck, all other supertitions, etc)
• Any other barbaric traditions (hunting etc.)

Something I think we should aim towards doing is having a language in which we all can communitcate (not necessarily English, but that is beginning to happen already).

Anything else you think society need to do/not do? What are your opinions?

it seems a lot like you want to get rid of diversity in the name of progress. who is to say what views are wrong and once the thought of abolishing slavery or giving women the vote was considered extreme. getting rid of the diverse beliefs and views in our society would surely lead to the mindless following of the 'acceptable' views, which in turn would lead to less creative thought and less progression in all areas of life. and also contradict one of your conditions for societies progression.
communication, tolerance and fostering diversity - to me they are the keys to society progressing.

Society will never be perfect or improve too much because opinions vary just like yours, we do not agree and with free will in our being and I do believe I have a soul we will always have different views. I could make a list here as you, a statement but what's the point? Power rules, the middle class pays for the sins of the world and you can not stop corruption, when people as you that think man can answer his own problems, when in fact the majority of them he created to begin with. Communism doesn't work because of mans longing for choices and changes for his survival and advantages. Capitalism doesn't work because in general the poor remain poor, the rich get richer and as I say the middle class foots the bill. People need to learn what the word respect is, as well we need to provide health care and nursing home care, and families that do care in taking care of our own, that is the place to start. No political parties, short office terms and strict punishments for graph, and personal gain in public office..
