I have one. If you don't give it enough gap, you will have buckles and broken spots in the flooring. Seen it happen. Don't buy the cheap stuff either. Go Mid-grade or higher or you won't be happy with it.

The floor can potentially expand that much. In your size area, though, I really doubt it. If you're worried about seeing the gap, do what the other person said and cut the drywall back to the studs, then lay the floor under that. Just make sure you do leave some kind of room for expansion - you don't want all your hard work to end in a buckled floor.

I put a floor like this is one of my rooms last year. I ended up following the instructions regarding edge gap. It looks great and I have not had any problems. My baseboards cover the gap I left.

Good luck.

Another point of info on your floor: The material mine was made out of was EXTREMELY hard. It trashed my miter saw blade by the end of the job. Start with a new blade and it should last through to the end for you. But you may need to replace it or have it sharpened soon after.

I think 1/2 is excessive but someone must have checked it out. When you take your baseboard molding off see if you can cut the drywall on the bottom up to the two by four studs or base plate. This should give you the expansion you need

If you do it differently, you will void any warranty. If you don't want to take up the base board, install 3/4" quarter round, nailing it to the baseboard, not the flooring.

Take all of the un-opened packing packing containers and your receipt (and all of the opened packing packing containers if conceivable) returned to the keep that bought them. Get you cash returned. "Junk in equals Junk out". you won't be able to get sturdy outcomes until you initiate with sturdy supplies. purchase a sort that value extra consistent with foot that doesn't snap jointly or has very own glue. purchase a layout you could glue each bit as you placed it down. in basic terms glue 2 edges of each bit. do no longer over glue, this is, do no longer fill the groove with glue, glue the acceptable fringe of the tongue. Wipe off the surplus as you hammer, confident faucet with hammer and wood block. I in basic terms final year put in Thomasville flooring from domicile Depot and it went down positive. I put in some intense priced flooring with its very own glue and that i bruised it everywhere in the floor because of the fact i became hitting it too no longer common to get the sides jointly.
