It depends on the individual turtles. Some live together nicely, others don't. In my experience, species has nothing to do with whether or not they get along. Sometimes big turtles will bully smaller ones, but even that is a matter of each individual turtles personality. Fortunately, you will know at once if they are going to get along. If they start pushing each other or biting, they won't ever get along, seperate them.
They won't care either way if there is another turtle in the enclosure or not. They don't form attachments that way. I doubt they would even notice when that the other is gone.

There are a few concerns:

1.) The new turtle will almost certainly carry disease orparasites that will infect your turtle. This is why we always quarantine new animals for at least a month before introducing them to the other animals.

2.) There is a greatly increased chance of aggression and injury in situations like this unless you have a really BIG cage

turtles normally like to live together, so it is good for them to stay together.but again you will be separating them in a short time, so it will be quite painful and even lead to death due to sorrow. moreover your turtle has stayed alone and meeting a new one it might turn violent.if the breed of the two turtles is different then they are more likely to fight and bit each other.also if their size is different they will fight. i have four turtles living together for more then a year but when i tries to keep four more red ear sliders with them they bit due to breed and size difference. i will advice you to keep them separate as even if they get friendly you'll be hurting them by separating them.

My friend had two turtles together once, but that could be because they came from the same place. I'm not sure, but if turtles are like most animals and reptiles they might be dominant, especially if they are male, so it wouldn't be a good idea until you ask a pet store or call a specialist. Good luck!

yes, it is a good idea, most turtles die quickly because of no other companionship, but if the turtles part your turtle will feel lonely.
