I have a tv tuner and I want to capture video from a vcr. I also have a mini 3.5MM stero male to rca male cable. I want to capture video using windvd creator. The only option I have if I want to record sound from the tv tuner (usb) device is the microphone. The tv tuner does not have a line out jack, I have to connect the sound directly from the vcr. I have a toshiba satellite. It does not have a line in jack. It only has a microphone and headphone jack.

you should be able to..
I wouldn't necassarily try it with the VCR though.

And no, it can't harm your CPU at all.

Central Processing Unit=CPU.
If the CPU can't handle a process your trying to do, or a process it doesn't understand, it freezes up...therefore no damage can be done.

So don't worry about doing any damage to your computer.
I don't really know a whole lot about this particular field, but i'de say go for it.. Nothing can really happen, as long as you know where everything plugs in and have a general idea of how to record, and which file formats are the best/easiest to use..

mp3 format i find to be the most standard and easy to use. (so long as it's only audio your trying to record)

exterior mic jacks are extra for extra serious purchasers, giving them the alternative of a extra professional mic, and one which would be moved faraway from the digicam, probably fending off noise of a lens this is vehicle focusing. no longer all dSLRs can vehicle concentration while shooting video whether. dSLRs that have not have been given mic jacks will checklist sound with the two a mono or stereo mic it somewhat is outfitted into the physique. No digicam maker is going to deliver a dSLR that shoots video, that would no longer checklist sound.
