We put too much toilet paper down it after an incident involving the dog and a stomach complaint. It flushes but the water takes ages to go down. Anybody know what the best product to use/thing to do? thanks.

If you can't clear the clog with a plunger, you should try using a plumber's snake. These are available at your local hardware store.

Try this -- first shut the water off. now flush the toilet,so that no water will come back into the holding tank. Get your self a big box of baking soda and a big bottle of regular vinegar. Put half the box of soda into the bowl, and pour vinegar in. stand back and watch the action. Keep doing this until it bubbles way down in the pipe. get your self an empty ice cream bucket and pour some water down. Repeat until water runs on its own and pipe is clear of blockage. Now turn on water and flush. If you have used enough baking soda and vinegar the toilet should work fine. No tosic fumes and its enviromentally safe. Do the same to the sinks as the blockage could come from there. Also if you happen to put grease in your sink, and use Drano then you have one big lump of solid soap. The main ingredient in drano is lye,and the main ingredient in your bar soap. If this does not work, then you need a plumber, with a snake.

Don't you have a toilet plunger? If you do just keep plunging it till
it flushes freely. Also you can get some products that will help
disolve the plug, but you have to read on the container. Some of those can't be used in the toilet. Good luck.

open up a metal clothes hanger into a long wire, push in as far as it goes and twirl while pushing and pulling. some may be pulled back into the bowl, wait for a few mins after you reckon you have the blockage dislodged, then re flush. usually works, also unless you used newspaper or something, TP will usually disolve overnight.

good luck

DO NOT USE HOT WATER it will raise an ungodly smell if its not just paper, and if it is just paper it wont help either

There is a product called Rid-X which breaks down the waste that gets stuck in toilets. My mom uses that most of the time. It works.

Try using a plunger to unclog the drain if that doesn't work try snaking it out. I don't think putting any chemicals down a toilet are a good idea.

Most of these answers will give you some advice, BUT - the one who told you NOT to use hot water, didn't give you the right reason why you shouldn't. If the hot water is TOO HOT, it can and probably will CRACK YOUR TOILET BOWL. Be careful what you put into the toilet, expecially chemicals that don't mix together. You should know what you're doing. PLEASE call in a plumber who knows what he's doing. Thanks. --

Have you tried a decent plunger with the flanges extruding out? Have you reached into the trap to pull out anything you can feel?

If that doesn't work, you probably have something like a toothbrush or comb stuck and you will need to call a plumber or check out diy.com

A metal flexible shower hose is the nearest to the proper plumbing thingy.
Ram it down, and round the bend. Even a hose pipe, would do, something bendy, but stiffish.
Often paper dissolves, over night.
