k if u know what im talking about when i sayenergy starwell, when ur arrangind the # of electron of an element in like circles

the fist one has up to 2 electrons third 8 fourth 18 fifth 32 but that anly adds up to 60 and i need up to 80 so can u tell me how many need to be in the next couple of levels

(element is mercury)

thanks

There are 2 electrons in the first energy level, 8 in the second, 18 in the third, 32 in the fourth, and then 18 in the fifth and 2 in the sixth.
The electron configuration is
Hg: 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 4s2 3d10 4p6 5s2 4d10 5p6 6s2 4f14 5d10

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Electron_orbitals.png

1s2, 2s2, 2p6, 3s2, 3p6, 4s2, 3d10, 4p6, 5s2, 4d10, 5p6, 6s2, 4f14, 5d10.

The first level only has 1 s orbital, the second level has both s and p, the third level has s,p and d, fourth level has s, p, d and F and the fifth level has up to s, p, d and f. You need to alternate which level you are at though becuase they vary in energy so the 4s actually comes before the 3d etc.
s up to 2 electrons, p up to 6 electrons, d up to 10 electrons and f up to 14 electrons.

Wow what are you talking about?

1. Use punctuation
2. Use correct capitals etc.

If you mean valence electrons, it's just the last number of the coloum it's in. (Like Hydrogen is in the first colum, so it's valence electron is 1).
