nice tribute...lets just hope they find out he wasnt flying the plane so his family doesnt lose a substantial death benefit from mlb....there is a clause that negates the benefit if he dies as a pilot instead of a passenger

I didn't even know your name until today, Cory, but my heart is shrouded in saddness. You weren't the best pitcher in the league, but you did pitch an inning now and then and that makes your more important than the other 150 Americans that died in car crashes today.

Why did that building full of innocent people have to jump up in front of your recreational, toy airplane? It doesn't seem fair! Why didn't the city of New York anticipate this tragedy and clear the skys for you - afterall you are a Yankee and that makes your more important than the rest of us.

The media is going to make sure that everyone feels sorry for you and your family - so at least you have that. Maybe there will be a fund that I can send money to, because your family is more important than mine - because you were a baseball player and the media is covering your death.

Cory, just like the tens of thousands mourning your death, I never knew you or saw you play, or knew you existed, but my life is diminished none-the-less. I don't care about hunger or AIDS in Africa anymore because the real tragedy is when wealthy amature pilots like you, JFK, John Denver, and that senator dude splat against something hard and unforgiving.

Why oh why do the call them the "friendly skies"?

Good bye, Cory!

I'm a Phillies fan. The last game my girlfriend and I went to see was during interleague play this year, and he beat the Red Sox 10-5. I was sad to see him traded to the Yankees, and even sadder to find out that he's gone. Cory Lidle, may you rest in peace.

Phillies fan here. We had him for a couple of seasons and enjoyed his effort on behalf of the "Fightin's". We were sorry to see Cory and Bobby both go to New York but wished them both well. It is always sad when anyone dies certainly when it is an accident. I've been reading some of the comments tonight. Nearly all have been kind but a few have been terrible. We can only feel sorry for those who try and make a joke of someones death. I pray for Cory and his family. Sad days a head for everyone.

It's very sad and shocking to hear that Cory Lidle died today. A horrible death, may God be with his family and friends during this tragic time. A young man gone way too soon :(

Cory Lidle was a replacement player for the Milwaukee Brewers in 1994. I worked as a clubhouse attendant on that team. I got to know him pretty well. That is sad news.

I am not a big fan of baseball but ive heard enough of him to know that he will be missed dearly. Some how though I dont think that it was an accident or a suicide!
