There are many things that President Roosevelt did to contribute to our country.

Probably the greatest of these is the Social Security Act which had three or so subsequent amendments in the Thirties alone. It started a program in which the elderly and retiring would be able to draw on earlier pay for their retirement. Social Security was recognized as fairly unstable early on, leading to the crisis in which Social Security is now undergoing.

Many programs were created to make more jobs in the wake of the Great Depression-era America. Such programs like the Tennessee Valley Authority, Washington Valley Authority, and a conglomeration of other organizations, especially the ones aimed at building the monstrous hydroelectric dams that now dot the western states were responsible for the creation of thousands of jobs and a small, westward shift of the American population.

There is more to say, but not always the time to say it all. FDR helped in many ways. But he did something else. He almost quadrupled the national debt with these programs...along with the decisions of leaders today, that same debt is now hovering at $1 Trillion. So he helped America then, but the lack of afterthought caused a massive debt which the government could never recover from.

He bent the Supreme Court to his will by threatening to increase the number of justices to where he would get his way if they didn't stop ruling his plans to expand federal involvement into things that go beyond the limitations of the Constitution.

He is the hero of the Left because he freed us from the shackles of the Constitution, and gave us the modern, bloated bureaucracy that finally fulfilled the prophecy of Alexis de Tocqueville when he said "American shall have freedom until the government learns to bribe the People with their own money."
