I'm a 14yr old male and I've been having sharp pains in my hip when I run. This has been going on for about three weeks now. Are these growing pains, or something more serious?

This is only when I run, jog, or do some other physical activity simailar to that. When I'm not physically active(involving the hip joint) I'm fine. I can walk around at normal speed with no problem.

I have the same problem but I have learnt how to control it, first of you need to be drinking atleast 2 litres of water a day and when doing anything physical always try and control your breathing, I find if I am pushing myself to hard and my breathing starts going out of control thats when I start to get the sharp pains, controlling your breathing pattern I found really helps, I have spoke to my doctor about the same thing and she just said there is nothing wrong I just need to drink more fluid and control my breathing, and it worked like a charm!

It could be a case of bursitis. Bursitis feels like a sharp, burning, needle like pain that is pin point specific. It can really hurt after you have been running around or if your physical activity has been up. Bursitis doesn't just go away. You may need to see the doctor and they may tell you just to decrease your activity for a while. Worst case is that you may get a steroid injection, but because of your age, they may advise against that.

Muscle strain can happen when you run but must be gone in a few days. It hurts for 3 weeks now, then, you must see a physical therapist or a specialist doctor to ease your mind from worry. Or if you want, you try to see first a Chinese medical doctor. I always go there when I have dislocated joints, strain muscles or whatever body pains.
Nothing to be afraid of. You're young and still can heal and recover faster.

Could be something worth checking out.
Does it hurt only when you run? What other excercises bother it? Do you have full ROM and pain full during full ROM? Any pain in your back? Can you, in a runners stretch position, stretch any further than the other(just trying to figure out imbalances within pelvis and/or low back)?

It probably is growing pains, but talk with your parents and see if you need to see a doctor for a physical just in case.

If you mean right next to your weinie, it is a hip flexor muscle. To find out, hold your leg straight down, and without bending it, push your foot against something, like a wall. Does that hurt? If it does, it's a hip flexor.

Sounds like u need better shoes or foam in your shoes when u run.
Put oil on the hip area...baby oil or olive oil.
