One reason is all the sactions against the country. Another is the dictator who does not give a crap for anyone but himself and the huge army he has, another is the food, sent for the citizens is stolen and sold, instead of given to them for free. Another is the type of government they have(dictatorship)

The economy is bad in North Korea because the United States placed economic sanctions on N. Korea several days after they agreed to non-proliferation guidelines. So we went back on our word. This struck them very deeply. The day we placed those sanctions was the day they vowed revenge.
Now we must tiptoe around this very serious problem, appease them, or they will likely refine the effectiveness of their nuclear warheads, and sell it to whoever is willing to pay the price. Iran? Al Qaeda? The Talliban? Who?
Just one more political blunder by the Bush team. Quite possibly the worst mistake of this administration....to date....
