i have an 01 pontiac aztek. recently i had the converter changed on it. now it's making a "whisting" sound when i apply gas to it and i'm getting horrible gas mileage. i was getting like 20 to 25 in town with it before and now it's dropped down to about 5, seriously. the dealership is picking it up tomorrow to have it fixed, but i want to know what could possibly be causing this, so they don't try to cheat me or ignore me.

A sudden drop in gas mileage points to the catalytic converter. When you bring it to the dealer ask them if they put on the wrong converter. This should not cost you anything as the gas mileage drop was caused by them.

Maybe they installed improperly and you have an exhaust leak. that what you could be hearing as the whistling noise, and you are loosing back pressure which could cause poor gas mileage.
