Some interesting answers has been given, some stupid ones as well. You didn't say what type of milksnake it is. There are not that many milksnakes that grow big enough to feed larger rats to (Honduran being the only exception that I can think of). Back to your problem, firstly the sluggish feeding response only meens it's used to being fed dead prey, no need to react aggressively. If you want more energy feed him a live mouse every now and then. WARNING please watch the mouse at all times in the snake enclosure, it can hurt the snake. A cheaper alternative to feeding adult mice is to feed rat pinkies and smaller rat fuzzies. You should pick these up alot cheaper (almost half the price) than mice and it's a healthier alternative for the snake. Rats has got a bigger skull and bulkier body. There for ounce for ounce your snake will get more calcium and protein. This is really good for him. You can always feed him cut chicken pieces, but please another word of warning...you have to add calcium supplements. Hope this is of some help to you.

Teach the snake to eat mice that have been frozen and then order them on line or buy them in bulk from a pet shop. Our deal is buy 10 get one free and the frozen are 5cents cheaper for each. I know city prices are horrible though. You can also raise mice yourself but you need a shed or garage because the stink is bad. The next thing after mice is small rats and rats should be cheaper.

properly, there is not any longer plenty. yet there is one! regrettably, water snakes are truly complicated to shelter. (have faith me...) and tremendously much no snake will take something yet mice. yet at petco, you need to purchase pre-killed mice. it truly is frozen. in basic terms thaw it out, and serve it. There are a pair accessible, yet they're VERY high priced and are not newbie snakes. There a snake stated as the Kenyan Sand Boa. it truly is between the only snakes that are a pair of million ft (15 inches max!). yet they devour mice. you may feed it pre-killed mice nevertheless, so the detrimental mouse would not would desire to go through. there is one extra. it truly is stated as the grey-Banded Kingsnake. regrettably, it gets to be 4 a million/2 ft long. It eats lizards nevertheless....meaning you will desire to purchase (stay) feeder lizards from a particular internet site. i'm truly sorry, in line with risk a snake isn't for you. desire i ought to help.

Where are you getting your mice?
Alive or pre-killed?
Most milks & kings will take the appropriate sized pre-killed mice or rats.
If you buy in bulk & keep the balance frozen, they are much chesper to buy.
Sorry but their really isn't a cheaper food than mice.

If it's because of the size of the snake, move to a larger mammel, like weaned rats. If it's because of the expence, try raising your own rats to feed it. Go to the following page to see more.

personally i have 15 snakes and depending on the size of the snake it can eat. rats, mice, baby rabbits or any other small rodent. snakes only have to be fed once every 2 weeks unless you want it to grow fast. if feeding your snake is turning out to be too expensive try buying a few females and a few males. breeding them and feeding the babies to the snakes. (once of course the babies grow a bit) good luck

If the snake is getting large & is eating many mice, you might move up to larger mammels such as rats.

Good Luck!
