Yes, in the long run, I think he'll be good for the Azzurri.
However before he can leave his imprint on the team, he needs to ensure that qualification is assured first.

But having a young former player as coach, is a trend that has proved quite successful with Germany (Klinsmann), Holland (Rikjaard) and Bulgaria (Stoichkov).

No harm for Italy to go down this road and give it a shot. With the pressure of not winning a major trophy for 24 years dispelled, this is the best time to experiment and try different things.

If it fails, then there is always Capello, Mancini or Ancelotti to turn to.

Only time will tell, hopefully we are on the right track now after the Ukraine game and last nights result. It has to be difficult for any manager to take over a World cup winning squad and just carry on, it will take time for him to adjust, and for the players to adjust to a new managers way of thinking. Both the early games in te euro 2008 qualifiers were played before the start of the Italian season so were not a true gauge in my opinion.

I hope we can carry this improving form into next year.

Well, he didn't do sooo bad. At least his brain started working after they lost those matches and called up Toni, Del Piero, Camaronesi and all of those players... But you got to give him a chance to adjust.
