What does the quote "Fate has brought all my pride to a thought of dust" mean?

Creon says it from the book, Antigone...I think it means that all his pride got him nowhere. BUt i'm not positive, please help.

I would agree with you. If you believe in pride, then your decisions and choices have gotten you to where you are today. Thus, you are only where you are today because of the choices you have made. However, if you believe in fate...your choices were predetermined and didn't matter at all. Therefore the statement is a paradox pr a contradiction.
