the maturer, the less greedmad, powermad, the more impartial, goodwilled, objective, honest, aware, caring, bigpicture-minded? where'd they go? we havent seen hide nor hair, or heard a peep from them for decades, it seems

did they see the writing on the wall and flee?

did they take up drugs in despair?

did they go looking for answers and never came back?

The left in America was banned w. McCarthyism, what you have now is a liberal elite who by comparison to your virtually fascist right seem left wing. The original Liberal Party of the British Empire stood first and foremost for 'progress' which in those days meant getting as many men down mines and into factories as possible to create wealth for...you guessed it, the Liberals and the opposition side of the government, ruling class aristocracy and new class of Capitalist proprietors. The left in the UK has been greatly subdued by the apparent economic success of the right, only time will tell if that will be a permanent feature of the political landscape.

The left does not have a specific set of people and they always change according to times. When there used to be problem of haves and have-nots, there appeared a group for the have-nots and this group was termed left. The fight to have even distribution of wealth was the central motto. These are days, when the have-nots also are part of haves (People have purchasing power). Because the basic minimum of house, food and clothing have been fulfilled. There is one need of the community still not fulfilled - that is, employment for all and a fair day wage for that. this may anytime assume a proportion for people to represent as a group and this may possibly be the left of the future.

They went out, stage left. LOL

Once upon a time, some people believed in Communism. In time, and after much struggle and bloodshed, along came the Soviet Union. Then Stalin. End of dream of Communism.

Once upon a time, some other people believed in Socialism. Power to the Working Classes, they demanded. They went on strike. In time, after much struggle, many countries got more-or-less Socialist governments. And lo, the sons and daughters of the old working class left the mines and the factories and got office jobs. They threw off the old private landlords and got mortgages. Then they bought TV sets. Then they bought IKEA furniture for their mortgaged homes. And they became the new Middle Cl-asses. Welcome to the age of dumbing down.

And lo! They sang a new song:

To the tune of the Red Flag.

"The people's flag is palest pink,
It's not as red as some people think.
Don't let the scarlet banner float,
We want the middle class's vote,
And though our older comrades sneer,
We'll stay in power for many a year!"

there is no left or right, they are all one in the same. just an illusion of competition to keep the power between them, them being the wealthy capitalists. their god is money and power, everything else is just a tool to get more money and power. whatever arguments or rivalries they have is just like sibling rivalry. In the end, they know the same people hang out in the same places even come from the same families, belong to the same clubs and societies, they laugh all the way to the bank. While the ignorant, blind uneducated working class majority sit there drowning in debt, arguing left, right, democrat, republican, cnn, fox news..... blah blah blah.

I believe they were turned out of Washington so they started making movies about things that were going wrong, they took over the American top 40 and prime-time TV. And they've been spending a lot of time making the Right account for their mistakes.
