If you get a chance, check out this Web Site. http://www.musclecarclub.com/musclecars/general/musclecars-50fast.shtml. It has a listing of the top 50 muscle cars of its time. I guess a lot of it has to do with personal preference. Some guys like Mopar, and some guys like me, like Fords. But I'm a third generation Ford Employee also. It might not be the fastest but I'm pretty partial to my 68' Mustang Coupe. Hope this helps. But remember one thing it's not how fast they go, it's how much money you put in it to make it go fast. Ha, Ha.

depends on who you ask
i mean you hear all kinds of storys
hears one, my brother bought an old 67 polara 440 auto snow tires for the engine for a spair but he did drive it as a work car for a while this was back in the 80s
so he was haveing some work done at a local speed shopp useing the cars trunk to take his chargers engine block there(whane county speed shop for the dodge boys) and thay new the car it was the fastest car in the 1/8 mile around those parts
it beat my other brothers 55 chevy witch had a nasty (for the time) 327 low gears the dodge had 6 people in it the chevy just the driver. my brothers both confirm this story

1969 Pontiac Trans Am Firebird 400 ci with ram air 4 spd on the floor. The car was stock except for half moon pistons and matched springs. Yes the car did exist my father still has window sticker. I rode in it a few times on the last occasion I left teeth prints in the dash cuz we almost hit a deer. 0-60 in 4 flat and 0-100 in less than 11.

When the factories were trying they were all very fast, My brother had a 1970 rambler rebel machine that was very fast off the showroom at 11,2 in the quarter guaranteed. However the fastest car I was ever in was a 1969 Chevy Nova 396 ram air. Your question brings back many memories.

I like the 88 T-birds 4cly Turbo---not exactly the fastest car of the day, but the factory models sure could smoke some at the take off--depending on the competition.

the 427 cobra was the fastest car of the era. i once hooked a ride with a guy at a shelby meet in daytona beach.0-60 in 3.5 sec in first gear(cooking the tires the whole way- if you could hook it up itd do it in 1.5)-almost peeled my face off! the guy broke the tires loose from an 80mph punch in 4th gear. i asked, whats top end?- he said, only 180 with this gear. what a ride! sex on wheels
