I have always enjoyed the Greek and Roman mythos, definately some good stories, tragadies and comedies there. Egyptian is all spooky stories full of incencse and mystery, loved those as a teen. My all-time favorite are the Celtic mythos and the Arthurian legends. They hit close to home and are left so open. I love to dig through the shrouds Christianity placed on them to find the bare truth beneath. But I'm Welsh, its in my blood. Those hills on my great aunt's property are so beautiful and secretive... I know there is truth in those mountains...

Hey Slayer-

Norse. Celtic/old western Europe is also good. Both deal with a pantheon where the gods are more similar to humans, and it seems like Norse beliefs and traditions had the greatest effect on western Europe (and therefore the US to some extent).

Don't get me wrong-love the Greeks and have since I was little, but I like the Norse best (a lot of the stories are similar-Greek v.Norse)

Indian: not bad- try the Ramayan for an intro.

Other East Asian (Japanese v. Chinese)- not bad, just not my favorite.

Very small experience with African mythologies, sorry.

I find Greek and Egyptian mythology fascinating.
I always thought that the Norse mythology was somewhat violent and boring.
Roman mythology, they took bit and pieces of Greek mythology and sort of made it their own.
I never really explored the Native American Indian mythology much, but what I did read I found interesting.
Indian mythology is confusing to me.
In fact, I find all Oriental mythology somewhat confusing, but I suppose if I read into it a bit more I might understand it better.
But that's just me. So I think mostly just Greek and Egyptian is my thing.

I don't believe thy're myths at all. I really do enjoy the Pantheons of the Norse and Egyptians. I have close ties to each. It's always nice to have gods you can talk too. Besides, I remember being a priestess in Sekhmet's temple. We still talk a great deal after all these years. But the Norse are the most fun. Talk about gods you can really get to know without having your whole family turned into something. and the parties go on for days...or until everyone forgets why they came.

Ancient Canaanite and Babylonian, because so much of the hebrew biblical material is based on those myths or influenced radically by them. Greek and Norse myths (while interesting) have not had nearly the impact as say the Ba-al cycle from Ugarit...
