So, like you have another plan, such as invasion?

Or should we just launch a few dozen ALCMs and SLCMs into some NK buildings in some mountain valleys and hope for the best?

Let's do the math:
Seoul, South Korea has a population of 10+ million. It's 25 miles away from the DMZ.

North Korea has a standing army of 1.08 million soldiers, including 55,000 spec ops forces (vs. SK's 686,000 troops and the US 17,000 troops.)

NK has numerous tunnels with equipment & munitions pre-positioned for them to invade the south.
NK has an estimated 2,000 tanks and 8,000 artillery pieces (170 and 240 mm) and MLRS along the border, aimed at SK targets. Including chemical weapons.

If another Korean war was started, it is estimated that SK + US losses would be 2 million.

In the 1990's, Russia estimated 2 million North Koreans died from famine. Kim Jung Il would have no hesitation to throw his army into a suicide war, because he doesn't care about his people.

I think we can continue talking for a while.
Especially when it is all but certain that NK's n-test was largely a dud.

We should keep trying. We have been trying to get them to go back to the six party talks, but they won't. That should be the conditions, six party talks.
Now i read on yahoo that Coffee Annon wants the US to talk directly with North Korea.
What is the U.N. up to?
I think they are trying to get the US into a war with North Korea. That UN organization ain't good for us. They are supposed to be the international police force. why should we talk to PingPong ? Let the UN deal with it. After all, the UN and the rest of the world thinks the US is an evil empire building country. Let someone else deal with N.K. Or, lets agree to talk, and as soon as N.K. violates any of the agreements, let China, Russia or one of the other U.N. member countries nuke PingPong and his group of idiots. We talk, and the others fight if it comes down to it. I reject using our military on N.K. Let someone else take the heat.
And eject the UN from US soil!!!!!!

It's too risky. Starting a war at this time would not be smart. We are struggling in the Mideast now. Lets not forget about China and Russia. A military strike could lead to WW 3.

Unfortunately we will be talking too them until they prove they have a nuke that can bother us. Then we will stop talking because its too late. Sorry for the pessimistic view but that's what is going to happen.

We have been talking with them since the 50's.
Technically, we are still at war with them and have been since the end of fighting in the Korean war.
The problem ,I think, is the paranoia of the leadership there. They assume that we are ready to attack them at any moment.

Unfortunately, we will have to talk to them for a long time. You see, bush has spent all of the money on a useless war in Iraq, so we don't have money to go after N Korea, and they know it too. That's why they did it...

Why bother?
Ten Years of talking has done no good, why will it now.
I for one feel N. Korea is raising any kind of trouble it can due to its internal problems and is seeking help. This is why they are doing what ever they can to draw attention to them selves.

we don't. we don't cave to this little nutball. we call the shots. he wants something from us. why should we do what he wants? what is he really going to do. one missile shot from N. Korea Will end in N. Korea becoming a parking lot. he knows it.
And to say our military is stretched too thin is just dumb.
I know people who say this think they know everything about strategic warfare and that the military would never consider possible multiple fronts. I wouldn't doubt we have subs sitting off the coast waiting for orders.

well... I think beyond that... what can we do?

our military is stretched in Iraq and Afghanistan as it is... another engagement of any magnitude is not feasible at this point...

EDIT: it seems that we have no idea where their plants are... they are apparently mainly underground... so good luck with that... we don't even know if he set a bomb off for sure or where exactly it was...
